Ye are the light

BethanySMC - Thursday, 8 December 2011 08:49

Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. Mat 5:14-16

It is not a small matter to be a light in the world that lays in darkness. It is a privilege, and at the same time challenging because a lot of times it brings some form of discomfort to the eyes of the world that is used to darkness. It is not a secret that it takes time until our natural eyes adapt to the light, especially if the eyes saw nothing but darkness for a long time. That is why presence of true Christians in society bring discomfort to those who live in darkness.

You would think that your holy life, devotion to higher purposes, your joy, honesty, purity, and faithfulness would be appreciated by the people around you. No matter how many advantages holy living has over darkness, those who are used to the life of darkness many times chose to stay away from the light. Even though those advantages are very obvious, many fight against the light, fight against truth, against Christ and those who are faithful to Him.
Light bothers their conscience and exposes their sins, makes evil obvious and those who love sin cannot but hate the light, and those who shine in this world.

However, there are some who do not fight. They take time to adapt to this light and eventually leave the darkness. You and I, I believe are live testimonies of people who were brought into the kingdom of light through faith in Jesus Christ and became a light to this world. Our goal is to fill this crooked and perverse nation (Php.2:15) with light. We should shine like the sun or be visible as the moon in clear skies, yet our light should be gentle to the eyes as a light from a candle. Our goal is not to blind people with the light, but let them see! Abundance of good works in our life makes it possible.

There are many who have yet to join us, there are many who need to see your light in order for them to come to Christ!

Let us not compromise. Let’s get rid of anything that puts a shadow on our light. Let us not hide that we belong to another kingdom, that we live by different principles. Let us not participate or yield our self to darkness, rather show the world a better way to spend time and live life in love.
May Christ be visible in every one of us!

Let the world mock, laugh, and fight. You and I know – light wins over darkness. No matter how hard it is to keep this light shining, to forgive, to love those who hate you, to keep yourself far from lusts and filthy environment, to carry cross – do not give up. By the grace of God, victory is ours! There are those watching you who are lookingfor something better than darkness. Your light produces fruit in them and you are going to have a reward for it!
