Ten times better

And the king communed with them; and among them all was found none like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah: therefore stood they before the king. And in all matters of wisdom and understanding, that the king enquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers that were in all his realm. Daniel 1:19-20

I was thrilled to reread Daniel Chapter 1; such a powerful story of Daniel and his friends. The King James Bible describes them as children who were among the captives that the king brought home, after conquering Jerusalem. Faith and confidence in God in these boys in a strange land, is a challenge to believers of every generation after them, regardless of their age. It is also a powerful inspiration to keep your faith in God, who is a rewarder and a shield to those who trust Him.

Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself. Dan 1:8. Such a choice could have cost him his life; to go against the current and against the will of the king, was not a small matter. His parents must have done a good job teaching him the word of God, so when the test came His way, he didn’t compromise and perhaps even influenced his friends to follow his example. God honored their choice and gave them wisdom and understanding, beauty, talents, skills and abilities that they scored much higher that all the rest of the children that were trained as well; even ten times better than all the kings counselors and advisors. Time and again, in their lives God has proved himself to be faithful to bless, save and deliver them as they continued the path of no compromise that they have chosen since youth.

What really excites me is the fact that God didn’t change!! As he was with Daniel and his friends, as he blessed them with wisdom and abilities, superior to the wisest men of that time – God still blesses those who choose to trust and follow the path of Daniel. Those who purpose their hearts that they will not defile themselves with this world, world views, customs and fashions – after some time they find themselves 10 times or more  better off than those who are carried by the current of peer and cultural pressures.

The young ladies who do not defile themselves with immodest dress, make up and jewelry and who love the Lord above all and trust him, are precious in the eyes of the Lord and he gives them favor in the eyes of godly young men. If God leads them into marriage, such families are blessed and experience commitment, security and love relationship that the worldly couple can only wish for. Young men who follow Daniel’s example can find themselves 10 or more times more skilled in business than their competitors; somebody finds favor at an interview and gets a good job, scores higher on tests. According to a recently released Department of Agriculture report, it now costs as much as $475,680 to raise a child to age 18. That doesn’t even count college. With God’s wisdom, godly parents could raise 10 or more children for the fraction of that cost and nobody will be lacking any good or needed thing.

These are just a few examples of God’s faithfulness. The life of no compromise is blessed by God in many more ways and will be rewarded in heaven, if we are faithful to the end, even to the point of death.
