Sojourning in fear

BethanySMC - Sunday, 17 June 2012 03:05

And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man’s work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear: Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: 1 Peter 1:17-19

The Holy Spirit addresses God’s children through Apostle Peter with a very sobering thought. Many, who profess to be Christians stress a lot about praise and worship, yet have very little fear of God and still go after vain manners of life: pursuing customs, styles, fashions and the empty way of life, showing very little interest to be redeemed from the lusts of the world.

“As long as I believe in Jesus I am covered. God doesn’t care about what I do”- they say. Does He? I think from time to time it is good to be reminded that God does care how He is respected and honored in our words and by our lives. He went a long way to pay the price for our redemption and to prepare mansions for us in heaven. I believe it grieves the Holy Spirit when He doesn’t see much reverence and true love for Him that would cause us to hate and avoid everything that offends Him. Those who profess to know God must aim at perfect obedience to His commandments.

Our mind and heart must be set on eternity where our true home is! No fun, entertainment or experience on this earth can be compared to what God has prepared for us. We are temporary here, yet at the same time we are fully accountable for the time we are given. God will judge even His children according to each man’s works. God judges without respect of persons.

Let us sojourn carefully with reverence and godly fear, with a holy awe of God and His word, making best of our time by doing the things that will matter in the light of eternity.
