Run not with them

Who we ought to be & what we ought to do according to letters of Apostle Peter.

That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God. For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries: Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you.  1Pet 4:2-4

When you look at 21st century Christianity, do you notice anything strange about it? Millions who profess to be believers are no different then the rest of the dying world, in terms of lifestyle, pursuits, goals, worldviews and practices. What Jesus warned his disciples 2000 years ago in Matthew 24:12 is obvious today. Because iniquity has abounded – the love of many has waxed cold.  Dead faith, dead religion, no power to overcome the world with its lusts, passions and pride has become a normal way of life. Today, virtually no one thinks it strange when they see “Christians” worshipping idols of sport, celebrities, money and the things money can buy, pursuing entertainment and self indulgences, either with food, wine or pleasures.   Contrary, anyone who speaks against such things, puts the effort  to deny self or chooses to refrain from such practices is labeled legalistic and spoken evil of. Yes, the world, and now millions who profess to be Christians will think it strange to live holy and strive for perfection.

Modern and partily reformed theologies falsely assure people of salvation through dead faith that has no fruits of change in life and no works that follow saved men. Millions follow false teachers who pursue their own agenda and twist the Holy word of God to excuse lusts and sins that they themselves love. If you are one of those who have joined their crowd – your life, beliefs and practices are no longer strange to this world.

Let us examine ourselves while we still have time to repent! We will be asked to give account to Him who is ready to judge the living and the dead; then it is going to be late to repent and cry for mercy.

Let us not run with them to the same excess of carelessness, wasting time and resources on things that are not profitable for eternity; let us show temperance, rather than indulgence in  sensual pleasures and wine, squandering  health and money.

Let us repent for the course of sensuality we pursued in the ways we conducted ourselves or dressed and turn back to God! Let the world think again that we are strange and out of style, odd and out of date! We have eternity to enjoy life and they do not! All they have is now, which is slipping through their fingers day after day!

And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever. 1 John 2:17
