Looking this and that way

And he looked this way and that way, and when he saw that there was no man, he slew the Egyptian, and hid him in the sand. Ex.2:12

The verse is taken out a well known story of Moses when he saw an Egyptian smiting a Hebrew slave; Moses looked this way and that way. Why? He was about to do something that no one was suppose to know about. Perhaps Moses came after the Egyptian in a private place and had to double check that no one was around.

Every time people do something secret, they all subconsciously do the very same thing – look this and that way. Oftentimes the reason why people are looking around, checking to make sure that the doors are locked, parents have left the home, no coworkers around is to verify that nobody sees them because they are about to do something evil.

What happened to Moses happens to me time and again, and I am sure you can relate to this as well. When the temptation comes to do something you want no one else to know, if you are glancing around to make sure that nobody is watching you – it is a good indication that the thing you are considering doing is evil, even though you might have convinced yourself otherwise.

Remember, God is watching you and even if people don’t see what you do – God does. The day will come and He will open publically all things that were meant to be a secret. This is a simple but pretty straight forward principle that will keep you from much evil.

There is another principle that can help you a lot in your Christian life, as well as, increase your reward in heaven. Every time you want to do something good that you want people to know about – before you do it, look this way and that way to make sure no one sees you. God, who takes special notice of good that is done in secret, will reward you openly!
