Living long and enjoying life

For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile: Let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue it. 1Petr 3:10-11

In Prov18:21 we read:  Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. The tongue is a little part of the body that is able to heal or make a wound, bring pleasant memories or leave a bitter aftertaste for many years, bring hell to earth or fill life with heavenly sweetness.  Every word spoken is like a seed planted that will sprout one day and bring froth fruit. If you want to see good days, Peter writes to believers, refrain your tongue from evil, and your lips that they speak no guile. Every immoral, wicked and corrupt word uttered will boomerang back to you causing you harm. Words that were meant to mislead and deceive others will bring much deceptiveness and fraud into your own life. What you sow – you will reap.  What’s more, God will hold us accountable for every idle word that we say on the day of His judgment.

Often people say they enjoy life while they go loose doing evil. Do they really enjoy life? Devil is a skilled cruel master – who offers moments of sinful pleasures without consequences. If they would be honest, they would admit, that all they enjoyed was that little moment and the rest of their life is miserable. They can’t enjoy life – because it is against the principle that God established in His everlasting word. Depression, guilt and emptiness – over and over again are attempted to be filled with another portion of sinful pleasure. In this cycle there is no real joy or peace, life is hard and disappointing. On the other hand, those who avoid evil have much more pleasant days during their lifetime, those who chose to do good – have even more. Moments of sin and evil rob the life of days, months and years of good life in health and freedom.

Attempt and pursuit to be at peace with all men, with much diligence guarding it, is another building block of a happy long life.  Look at the couple who are not at peace with each other; are they happy? Those who have gone trough several divorces – are they happy? Maybe those who have enemies are enjoying life? Maybe those who are rich are truly able to enjoy life and see good days? No my friends, without peace, money will not be able to make life more enjoyable. Historical records reveal that even the richest, most powerful and influential men of this world were suffering with anxiety, were tormented in their souls and were never able to enjoy life.

God’s principle is clear: For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile: Let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue it. This principle stood the test of time and is proved in the lives of countless number of people.
