Can I trust God today?

They cried unto thee, and were delivered: they trusted in thee, and were not confounded. Ps.22:5

In any relationship, trust is the major building block, if not the foundation. Confidence in something or someone opens new dimensions and doors that would have been closed otherwise. It seems that there is no harmony and peace of mind in any relationship that lacks this mutual confidence. In cases where trust was violated, misused and abused – wounds are deeper and trust relationships are hardly restored. Devil, being a very clever fellow, figured this out a long time ago and is using all his tactics to break the trust relationship between God and man.

In the Garden of Eden, the devil approached Eve with thoughts that undermined God’s best interest for the first people. We all now that was a lie, however, Adam and Eve bought into it. Similar lies are offered on every corner today. Devil’s “merchants” have their headquarters in school systems, and they also recruit a lot of volunteers to help target any age. God’s commandments that were designed to keep and protect from evil, are labeled as legalism. Christianity is displayed as something lacking of joy, where people are obligated to do what they are told. Bondage, guilt, slavery and sickness, on the other hand are much advertised and are always “on sale.”  Devil successfully achieves his purpose of killing, stealing and destroying in all of his customers.

To this very day, devil plants thoughts after thoughts to undermine reliance, character, ability, strength and truth in the almighty God. Those who are open-minded to such suggestions often do something that Eve did years ago. Should you begin to question God and His word – if it is relevant in our days, if God meant what is written, if He will do what He said He will – beware! You are opening your mind for the enemy. If such seeds are planted into your mind, overtime it produces fruits of doubt and unbelief. Your prayer life dries out, the remains of joy vanishes.

I confess I used to buy some of those thoughts from the enemy as well. When God was calling me to surrender all to Him, trust and accept His perfect will for my life and choose the way of obedience, I didn’t do it at first. The devil sold me his seeds of doubt in the goodness of God. He told me something like this: “if you do that… God will make your life miserable; you will suffer a lot and will most likely end up somewhere inAfricajungles, never get married and just waste your life.” Later when I married my wife, he came back with the same lies that if I trust God with how many children we will have – I will end up housing so many that I will not be able to keep up with them or raise them for God.

In your case, there might be similar or different lies that are strategically targeted to ruin your trust relationship between you and a loving God. The worst attacks often come when something in fact seems to be going wrong. Devil is right there suggesting that you should give up your trust in God, and that God forsook you and wasn’t faithful to you.

When a time of testing comes to your life – I want to encourage you to resist the devil with all your might. Remain confident in God – He never failed anyone who trusted Him. If you don’t understand something – just keep on trusting Him – you will understand one day. Always remember – all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. Rom 8:28 Trust the Lord and you will see your relationship with Him will be deeper day after day. Let your actions, choices and words be a proof that you are confident in God!
