Blessings of being hungry and thirsty

Mt.5:6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

The point that Jesus made in His sermon in a very direct way, relates to all of us who chose to follow him, who claim to love him and expect to reign with Him. You and I are His children to whom all blessings and promises belong. We are blessed when we set or heart to pursue after righteousness as the hungry pursue bread and as the thirsty pursue water.

Righteousness is not merely an addition or fruit of our Christianity, but it is a very essential element to our endurance to the end and survival as a Christian in this world. In a nut shell, righteousness is a holiness put into action – holiness practiced daily. To thirst and hunger after righteousness is often expressed in a longing to live a holy life, where you desire nothing less then to speak the truth and to be loyal to God no matter the cost.

To hunger and thirst after righteousness is to set for yourself high moral standards and be clean before God from all kinds of filthiness that this world offers through internet, TV, magazines. It also means to guard your heart, mind, and body form premarital sinful lusts and relationships such as: touching, hugging, kissing or seducing opposite sex – causing others to stumble and fall.

You are blessed and will be even more if you choose the ways of righteousness. God promises to fill you with His blessings so you will lack no good thing. He will satisfy your soul and spirit, blessings and peace shall follow you.

Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright: for the end of that man is peace Ps. 37:37 The law of his God is in his heart; none of his steps shall slide Ps.37:31 There is a distinct difference of the end of the righteous and the end of a transgressor. Yes, blessed are those who cannot live without Jesus, who apply every word of God to their life. Blessed are those who do not justify themselves but are humble enough to plead for mercy and whose sins were covered by the blood of the Jesus. Blessed is he who obtains righteousness by growing in faith. They will find strength in the time of trouble. The Lord will help them and deliver them. No righteous will be forsaken or his children begging for bread.

Many things of this world are very appealing to the flesh, yet blessed are those who are able to say no to them and cling to the old rugged cross to obtain righteousness and life in Jesus Christ!
