As we wait…

Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. 1Pet 1:13

As the day approaches when all God’s children will receive their inheritance and salvation of their souls, it is wise to consider who we ought to be and how we should conduct ourselves to have part in the things that God has prepared for those who love Him.

Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober.” To gird up the loins of the mind speaks of preparation for something that requires readiness, strength and endurance. We are not cruising through life, expecting to receive what has been reserved for us in heaven. We are in a war; not with flesh and blood, but with the darkness of this world and against all kinds of spiritual wickedness. In Ephesians 6 we read: “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”  Thus, our mind must be focused. Left and right we see people falling into various temptations and deceptions. Our fellow soldiers get wounded and some die right in front of our eyes! The war is real. The devil who is in charge of the enemies forces, uses all means to destroy as many people as he can.

It is not in vain that the Holy Spirit speaks through Apostle Peter “gird up the loins of your mind, be sober.” Our mind must be working 100% while we are awake. Our decisions must be rational and our actions self controlled and governed by the word of God. There is no room to get intoxicated or drunk. We are not to just sit around and wait, we are in a fight for our eternal life, for the salvation of our souls and salvation of men who are yet to come to faith.

Although it may seem that from time to time we lose some battles, we are winning the war! If we do not fall into a spiritual sleep or lose our focus, if we still hear the voice of our General, Jesus Christ, if we are led by His spirit – we are in good shape. Those who are sober and prepared have hope – God is on their side supernaturally equipping them and enabling them to overcome the enemy and to perform their duty! As we wait, it is not time to sleep; it is time to be actively involved and be ready to stand our ground and to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ. The Gospel that still changes lives, saves and gives hope to the lost.
