As obedient children

BethanySMC - Thursday, 7 June 2012 08:21

As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance: But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;  Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy. 1 Peter 1:14-16

Joy to the parents, asset to the family – a child who is willfully obedient to his parents; the one who respects, never has to be asked twice, and who does everything without an attitude. Blessed are such parents, blessed is the family!

I have two boys in my home – a two and a three year old – to me it is such a joy when I see them trying their best to please me and gladly do what they have been asked. I know what is good for them and the safe way for them. I care about every detail of their lives and they prosper by obeying us parents. Day after day, they grow into happier children.

Don’t you think God rejoices when His children willfully obey Him too? Can you picture God smiling and blessing such children? Nothing that God asks us to do can hurt us; no commandment recorded in the Bible is designed to harm those who obey it. All of His commandments are easy and light if we love God and appreciate what He has done for us and what He has prepared for us in the future! All that God wants from us is meant to be for our benefit.

“As obedient Children, not fashioning yourself according to the former lusts…” the Holy Spirit speaks through Apostle Peter to those who have become the children of God. In this world, there is a distinctive manner in how people behave, dress and operate which is dictated by the lust that lives within the hearts of those who don’t know Christ. As Children of God, we are asked not to fashion ourselves according to those lusts, but reflect Holiness of God in all things we have, wear or communicate.

Obedient children of God should be extra careful in the way they look, how they present themselves and what they communicate.  Everything you have in you room, closet and car; everything you listen to and see, the things you desire should be tested by this principle – does it communicate holiness or lust? Do you fashion yourself according to worldly standards and customs where all things are subject to the lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes and the pride of life or according to your calling to reflect holiness of Christ and being obedient to Him?

God loves His children, yet the day is coming and some discipline might be needed for those who are disobedient. He judges without respect of persons and according to every man’s work.
