Adultery Exposed

Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery: 28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart. 29 And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell. 30 And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell. Matt 5:27-30

Adultery is a serious matter, but long before physical act of adultery takes place there are desires and passions that arise in the heart of a man or a woman. Thoughts of romantic pleasure with some imaginary person or an individual, observing other’s people nakedness – in God’s eyes this is committing adultery on a heart level. Most of the time if such passions or thoughts are entertained in the heart – lust takes control over a person and he goes after sin “as an ox goes to the slaughter, or as a fool to the correction of the stocks, until an arrow pierces through his liver; As a bird hastens to the snare, So he does not know that it will cost him his life” Prov7:22

It is important to see that emotional adultery is as serious before God as physical unfaithfulness, and it is a sin that leads to death; at the same time, it brings about many curses and if it not dealt with, destroys the soul, robs marriage from blessings and happiness that God intended for people to have.

These desires must be put to death no matter how painful the process is. We must cut away or pluck out of our lives all things and objects that tempt us no matter how essential they are. Jesus uses essential organs of the body to stress the value of our souls. Matt. 5:29-30. There are a lot of things that we need for our productive daily business (phone, computer, media, etc.) but if they become the source for temptation we will be better off without them.

Men and women are different and it has been scientifically proven that such emotional adultery for men differs from women’s emotional affairs. A woman receives the same emotional stimulation when she is looked at; as men when they look at pornography. There is a slight difference – men have a tendency to lust privately, whereas women express their lust publicly. Men and women are wired differently – but the sin is the same. In both cases, same emotional adultery takes place when a person chooses to act upon such lust. Both are guilty who looks and those who enjoy the lustful looks or provoking others to temptation either by dress or by other means of bringing attention to their bodies.

Adultery is a serious sin and we live at a time and age where “provoking” and “sexy” is culturally accepted, where marriages are ruined, immorality is exalted and the porn industry is sweeping across the globe as a hurricane of filth.

There are a few things that I want to share that I found helpful to maintain a pure conscience and avoid the struggles with immorality. First, remove yourself from the area of temptation ASAP or remove the things that tempt you. Establish accountability for your personal computer, phone or internet use – there are a lot of programs that generate internet usage report and that could be accessed by someone else. If you have to pay for a good app program- pay, for your soul and your blessing are of a much greater value. Do not let time pass if you have sinned – the longer you remain in sin – the deeper roots sin puts in your life and more access the devil has to ruin your soul. The consequences of any sin are bad but the consequences of adultery are devastating. Let us watch, lest we are found guilty of adultery.
